The distributor will bring its titles to the streaming platform.
Hulu and Magnolia Pictures have announced a new output licensing agreement. As part of the deal, Hulu will receive the pay one window streaming rights to films released by the distributor.
"As we continue investing in the most valued and sought-after content, films are essential to that mix," said Craig Erwich, SVP and Head of Content, Hulu. "Magnolia Pictures continuously releases thought-provoking and award winning titles that we know our viewers will love."
Through the new partnership, Magnolia titles will become available to stream exclusively through Hulu after their theatrical release windows. New titles will start hitting the streaming platform in the second half of 2017. Previous Magnolia Pictures releases include movies like 'Man on Wire,' 'Food, Inc.,' 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi,' 'The Queen of Versailles,' 'Blackfish,' 'Force Majeure,' 'A Royal Affair,' 'A War,' 'Melancholia,' 'Let the Right One In,' '13 Assassins,' 'Tangerine,' and 'Viva.'
"We are very proud and excited to have struck such a meaningful partnership with a great company like Hulu," said Eamonn Bowles, President of Magnolia Pictures. "We look forward to the continued mutual growth of our companies."
Outside of the new Magnolia deal, Hulu also recently announced a licensing agreement for theatrical features with The Walt Disney Studios. As part of the multi-year deal, Hulu will now become the exclusive subscription video on-demand home to several Disney family favorites like 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' 'Mulan,' 'Pocahontas,' 'Hercules,' 'Sister Act,' and 'Air Bud.'
A current Hulu subscription starts at $8 per month with commercials. In addition, ad-free playback is available for $12 per month. Likewise, a Hulu live streaming platform is also planned to launch in early 2017 with content expected from Turner Networks, CBS, Fox, ABC, ESPN, FX, and the Disney Channel.
