Sony Won't Meet Blu-Ray Demand in 2006, Says Exec

Faced with shortages in the supply of electronics components, initial
demand for Blu-Ray players will exceed demand and prices will remain high, a
Sony exec told Reuters.
Due to the "phenomenal" sales of electronic devices such as mobile
phones, "overall component supply is tightening up," Stan Glasgow,
president and chief operating officer of the Sony Corp. division,
said
during an event in New York last week.
Glasgow added the shortages will result in the company not having enough inventory
to meet demand for next-generation Blu-ray DVD players in the United States.
"It's going to be expensive," he said, "[and] it will take time
to get component prices down."
His comments come one month before the official launch of Blu-Ray, with the
format's first players and discs due to hit stores June 20. Sony also [post

console this November, both including a Blu-Ray drive, the company announced
at last week's E3 expo.
