Tick tock, tick tock.
HBO has released the first teaser trailer for Watchmen. The upcoming show is inspired by the comic book series of the same name, and is set to premiere this fall.

The original Watchmen comic book series was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. The comic ran for 12 issues from 1986 to 1987 and has since been collected in various graphic novel editions. DC Comics has also released several prequel comics and is currently publishing a 12-part sequel titled Doomsday Clock.
It's not entirely clear how this new HBO version of the story will relate to the events depicted in the comics. Comments from showrunner Damon Lindelof have called the show more of a "remix" of the source material rather than a direct adaptation, sequel, or reboot. Lindelof previously served as the co-creator of ABC's Lost and HBO's The Leftovers. His feature film writing credits include Tomorrowland, Star Trek into Darkness, World War Z, and Prometheus.
Prior to the HBO show, Watchmen was previously adapted as a 2009 feature length film by director Zach Snyder and screenwriters David Hayter and Alex Tse. The movie starred Malin Akerman as Laurie Jupiter / Silk Spectre II, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan / Jon Osterman, Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias, Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Edward Blake / Comedian, and Patrick Wilson as Dan Dreiberg / Nite Owl.
