"I promised to fight for the living. I intend to keep that promise."
HBO has released the first official trailer for Game of Thrones: Season Eight, teasing the series' epic showdown between the living and the dead. The season premiere will hit HBO on April 14.
The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is set to consist of six episodes which will each reportedly run close to feature length. The show comes from creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and is based on the book series written by George R.R. Martin.
Check out the season eight trailer below!
Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Iain Glen, Alfie Allen, John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Jerome Flynn, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Rory McCann will all reprise their roles for the final batch of episodes.
And beyond the upcoming eighth season, HBO is set to start shooting a Game of Thrones prequel spin-off pilot this summer. Here's a synopsis per the network:
Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know.
The potential series comes George R. R. Martin and Jane Goldman (Kingsman, X-Men: First Class), and is set to star Naomi Watts as "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret."
