'A Man Escaped' on Blu-ray

The 1956 French prison break thriller comes to Blu-ray at the end of March.

In an early announcement to retailers, Criterion will release 'A Man Escaped' on Blu-ray on March 26.

With the simplest of concepts and sparest of techniques, Robert Bresson made one of the most suspenseful jailbreak films of all time in A Man Escaped.

The Blu-ray will feature a 1080p transfer, an uncompressed monaural soundtrack, and supplements include: Bresson: Without a Trace, a 1965 episode of the television program Cinéastes de notre temps in which the director gives his first on-camera interview; The Essence of Forms, a forty-five-minute documentary from 2010 in which some of Bresson's collaborators and admirers, including actor François Leterrier and director Bruno Dumont, share their thoughts about the director and his work; New visual essay with text by film scholars David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson; Trailer; and a booklet featuring an essay by film scholar Tony Pipolo.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.95.
