Developers are now able to update their apps for use on Google TV.
After the incredibly rocky launch of Google TV, it became clear that full Android compatibility was the right step forward. That compatibility will be coming when the device is updated to the Honeycomb OS, and it means that developers need to start getting ready now!
To help them along, Google has rolled out a new software development kit (SDK) specifically aimed at tackling the conversion between phone apps and TV apps. "Depending on the design and use case, an existing Android app may work well on Google TV as is, or it may require fixes," writes Google TV product manager Ambarish Kenghe.
He says that the SDK won't have all of the functionality of Google TV quite yet, but in endeavors to emulate it as best as possible. He also points out - which should be a relief to Google TV owners - that apps which require touchscreen interaction won't appear on the Market for Google TV.
