The rival tech giants are finally ending their streaming app feud.
After years of refusing to support each other's devices, Google and Amazon are finally ending their streaming war. As a result, the official YouTube app is now available on a variety of Fire TV models. Likewise, the official Amazon Prime Video app is now available on Chromecast and many Android TV products.
Google previously removed its YouTube app from Fire TV devices in January of 2018. Likewise, the Amazon Prime Video app has typically been unavailable on Chromecast and several Android TV products. Thankfully, the companies have now decided to let bygones be bygones.
As part of the rollout, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in products can now cast the latest version of the Prime Video app from Android 5.0 or higher or iOS 10.1 or higher mobile devices. Likewise, Chromecast Ultra users can get access to 4,000 titles included with Prime at no extra cost. In addition, Android TV support for Prime Video is also expanding, bringing the app to more smart TVs, set-top boxes, and media players.
Meanwhile, the official YouTube app is now available on Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and Toshiba, Insignia, Element, and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs. Previously, YouTube was still accessible on these products via web browser apps like Silk, but with the official app, compatible devices will finally be able to support 4K HDR playback. Likewise, the official app also supports Alexa voice control.
Amazon's newest Fire TV Stick 4K is now available for $49.99, while Google's Chromecast Ultra is now available for $69.
