The upcoming streaming platform will offer HBO content.
AT&T has announced a new multi-platform programming agreement with HBO. As part of the multi-year deal, access to HBO content has been renewed across all AT&T platforms, including AT&T DIRECTV and U-verse services. In addition, HBO and Cinemax content will also be available on the upcoming DirecTV Now internet streaming service.
"Our agreement with HBO is groundbreaking in the pay TV and wireless industries as well as the premium category," said Dan York, Chief Content Officer for AT&T. "With this agreement, we have created easy access to subscribe and consume HBO's premium content across all of our platforms. We look forward to growing HBO and Max subscribers. This is a first-of-its-kind deal for both companies and a big win for consumers, building off AT&T's industry leading scale as an HBO distributor for the benefit of our wireless, broadband, and entertainment customer base."
DirecTV Now will include a variety of content packages, offering live and on-demand DirecTV programming from various networks and premium add-on packages, like HBO and Cinemax, through the internet and internet enabled devices. Beyond DirecTV Now, HBO and Cinemax content will also be available as part of AT&T mobile video bundle offers. Likewise, the deal will continue to offer HBO and Cinemax content on linear TV, online and TV Everywhere apps for DirecTV and U-verse subscribers.
"We are thrilled to extend and deepen our valued and long-standing relationship with AT&T by announcing this groundbreaking agreement," said Simon Sutton, President, Global Distribution, HBO. "This deal will deliver the best in TV programming to viewers across AT&T's multi-platform experience. The entertainment landscape has evolved and we are excited to innovate on both AT&T's traditional and new platforms to further provide premium quality, extraordinary value and accessibility to viewers anywhere."
An exact launch date has not been announced yet, but DirecTV Now is expected to arrive by the end of 2017.
