Once the standard is set, you can expect work to begin on 4K broadcasts.
Standards aren't exciting to talk about, but they're essential in getting new technologies off the ground. In this case those technologies are 4K and 8K resolution broadcasting. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is meeting to set a standard on the formats.
Once the standard is set, the ball can start rolling on 4K and 8K broadcasts. "This is the dawn of a new age for television that will bring unprecedented levels of realism and viewer enjoyment," says ITU chairman David Wood. "It's a historic moment."
