3D movie trailers and other short-form content will be streaming to the handheld system.
Excited about the 3DS? If not, maybe the recent announcement from Nintendo head Satoru Iwata will change that.
We've known since the beginning that the 3DS will offer a handheld glasses-free gaming experience, but it looks like Nintendo is going to be doing even more with the new system. For starters, they're adding access to Netflix streaming - a first for a handheld game system.
You'll be able to stream from Netflix starting this summer, but you won't have to be sitting at home to do it. Nintendo is teaming with AT&T to provide free internet at over 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots.
Of course, a 3D system needs 3D content. It sounds like the 3DS is starting slow there, with some 3D movie trailers and short-form 3D video that hasn't been fully revealed yet. Iwata suggested that music videos and comedy clips would be among the first offerings.
The Nintendo 3DS launches on March 27 at a price of $249.
