USA, early 70s: Sports journalist Raoul Duke is supposed to report on a car race in the desert. Accompanied by his lawyer Dr. Gonzo, he sets off in a borrowed convertible in the direction of Las Vegas. In his luggage, two bags of weed, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of extra strong acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine and much more. The reason for the trip quickly fades into the background, because it suddenly turns into a roller coaster ride of excesses.
